This annual Dragon Boat Festival (DBF) is organised by the Rotary Club of Bristol Breakfast.
It is intended to offer fun while raising funds for charity. The Festival is held at Baltic Wharf in the Bristol City Harbourside between the Cottage Inn and the Bristol Marina.
Each year a headline charity is chosen which receives most of the monies raised. In 2017 the headline charity is "The Southmead Hospital Charity for Prostate Cancer", a Bristol charity. (See the "Our Charities" page for more details).
The 16th DBF will be held on Sunday the 18th June 2017 to raise money for The Southmead Hospital Charity and other Rotary Charities.
The DBF, is a full day’s event with up to 36 teams competing in heats, semi-finals and a grand final. The fund raising is achieved by all crew members obtaining sponsorship. Boats, paddles, buoyancy aids and instruction are provided by the organisers who are professional event organisers.
No previous experience is necessary and it is open to all, subject to a minimum age of 16 and being able to swim 50 yards in light clothing.
Fancy dress makes it more fun so prizes are awarded to the winners of the best fancy dress as well as the winners and those who raise the most sponsorship.
In addition to having great fun and raising money for good causes, the event can provide companies, other groups and organisations with an opportunity for team building.
